Youth Specialist Position

Minimum Qualifications

Staff must meet the following minimum qualifications and must provide evidence on the resume of such prior to employment:

  1. Be at least 21 years of age.

  2. Have a high school diploma, General Education Development (GED) certificate, or higher education degree.

  3. Have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time relevant caregiving experience. Relevant experience includes performing job duties with children or youth in a caregiver social service setting; or public or private experience providing or services similar to those listed in the job description. Current or prior service experience as a caregiver in a General Residential Operation, a Residential Treatment Center, or a Psychiatric Hospital is the most related experience to the job duties of this position.

  4. Pass a background check.

  5. Be in good health, reliable, and punctual in arriving to work.

  6. Be respectful and understand people of different races, cultures, and backgrounds.

  7. Speak the English language and/or the same language as the child to be served if the child’s primary language is not English.

  8. Have strong skills in oral and written communication.

  9. Relationship building.

Youth Specialists are asked to work with children in any of the following capacities:

  • CWOP Supplemental Caregiver Services are provided on an emergency basis for children who are children-without-placement and CPS has approved a short-term emergency placement location until long-term placement can be arranged. These specific services are intended to support the safety of children receiving supervision. Children can vary in age, but the primary population Supplemental Caregivers will work with include children that can range from 10 to 17 years of age. Client characteristics may include a child or youth with medical, mental, emotional, behavioral or educational needs, which requires close supervision at all times.

  • Hospital Sitting Services are provided for children in foster care that are hospitalized because of illness or injury. This person stays with a child and provides appropriate supervision and basic child care services when the child is hospitalized and a case worker or a foster parent is not available to stay with the child. Children's ages can be from 0-17 years old.

  • Supervised Visitation Services are provided for children in foster care that are in out-of-home placement and need to have their visits with family supervised. This person stays with a child and provides appropriate supervision and basic child care services. Children's ages can be from 0-17 years old.

Work Hours

Shifts are available 24/7 to support and supervise children in need. This position offers employees a flexible full or part time schedule with hours ranging from 6 to 12 hours per shift. The ideal candidate will work 30-40 hours per week.
